Historical View of Democracy

A democracy can not exist as a permanent form of government.

It can only exist until voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by some form of dictatorship.
The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence. From bondage to spiritual faith: from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to to dependence; from dependence back into bondage.
This analysis was done by a historian born in 1747 in Scottland. I think he was very astute.
This historian's name is Alexander Fraser Tytler.
Do you see similarities today? Western governments maybe lasting longer today due to the average age of people living longer but the cycle will be the same.
Maybe this is why the US forefathers set this up as a Republic which may last longer, hopefully in my lifetime.
