The Next Level......with Coach C (6/27/06)
For many Americans, fitness levels are way down. Fortunately, there is a solution to this kind of a problem and you'd be surprised at how quickly your fitness levels can change for the better. Today's post is for the beginner or for one who has not been too physically active lately:
....Walking
Walking is probably one of the most underrated activities that there is. It's an inexpensive yet quite beneficial form of exercise. Walking could be an entry level type activity to get you started....or advanced trainees can also reel in results also. Walking can be made into a very good cardiovascular workout.
To start out, begin by taking shorter walks of 12 to 20 minutes in duration. If you've chose 12 minutes start-up walks....progress to about 17 minute walks the next week. In other words, try to add approximately 5 minutes each week to your total walk time. Your body will adapt by making itself stronger! That is, the cardiac musculature of the heart will become stronger. Also, the muscles of the legs and low back will begin to develop and become more efficient. And that's what getting to The Next Level is all about. Have a good workout.
